It is the parents that make the Astros Community Great !!!

Our Belief

Without the support of the parents, the Astros would have never been formed. In the highly competitive academic environment in Hong Kong, it is not easy for parents to let their children spend the time required for training and tournaments. The commitment to stay in the sport of baseball comes as much from the players themselves, as from their parents. However, the Astros parents have a strong conviction that a healthy body nurtures a healthy mind. And we believe baseball is a highly complex sport which can train children on their tenacity, strategic thinking, quick reaction, judgement, and many other attributes.

Fees

Practice Fees - We share the costs for the team expenses (field usage, equipment, stipends for the Head & Assistant Head Coaches, etc.) Currently this is HK$600/player/month.

HKLL Tournament Fees (Team) - HKLL requires HK$25,000 for each team to register for the 2017-18 tournament. This fee is to be shared among the registered players of the teams. Fortunately, the Astros have received sponsorship for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons. The parents continue to work hard to solicit for sponsorship for future seasons, in order to reduce the financial burdens on families.

HKLL Tournament Fees (Individual) - Each player is also required to pay a HK$1,000 individual registration fees to HKLL to enroll into each tournament.

HKLL Yearbook Fees (Team) - In addition to the Team Registration fees, HKLL also requires each team for a HK$3,800 contribution to the publication of each season's HKLL Yearbook. Again, this fee is to be shared among registered players to the tournaments.

Non-tournament Players

If your children do not enroll in the tournament matches, they can practice with us until they feel ready to enroll in the tournaments. At the end of the regular season, normally in April, there will be short tournaments which would let practice players to participate in matches. We also try to organize some friendly matches with other teams when time and fields allow, especially during off season. In other words, children will have chances to play matches.

Practice Commitment

Each practice session goes from 9 a.m. – 12 noon, and we expect parents and players be punctual and demonstrate dedication to training. However, while we believe good results come from hard work, we also understand children nowadays have multiple commitments, therefore children can come and go as their other commitments require.  During practice, we usually have stations: pitching, batting, fielding, and then divide the players to play friendly games during the last hour. It is hard to keep younger players to continue for 3 hours, therefore we try to structure the training as interesting as possible to keep their attention.

Personal Equipment

Children joining the Astros need to have the following personal items:

  • Baseball Glove (for T-ball players, they might use the used gloves donated by the older players, if available)

  • Baseball Pants

  • Sports Cleats (Metal Cleats are not allowed)

  • Baseball Cap

  • Protective Cups (recommended for every male player, and mandatory for those who are playing catchers)

  • Team Uniforms - normally once a year around August, we will take orders for new team jerseys and caps.  All players enrolled into HKLL and T-ball tournament are required to wear team uniforms and caps.
