ABOUT US

The Hong Kong Astros are formed by Hong Kong and expatriate families who love baseball, and with a need to communicate in English. Usually these families have children playing in the Hong Kong Little League ("HKLL") tournaments, other parents without children on the teams also volunteer to help out – coaching, match scoring, umpiring, equipment preparation, caring for the children, etc.

Our aim is to help the children to have fun, learn and grow through the sport of baseball. The coaching team is currently staffed by a mixture of 8 professional and volunteer parent coaches, under the leadership of Head Coach Jonathan Ma. Coach Jon grew up in the United States and has been coaching youth baseball for many years. The Astros is fortunate to be able to draw their coaching resources from the adult baseball ball teams, the Tyhoons, which has 2 teams enrolled in the Hong Kong Baseball Association A & C Leagues.

The Astros is more than a baseball team, we are a community in which parents come together to share the joy and frustration in bringing up children. We compare notes on how to help our children balance their academic challenges and sports aspiration; how to deal with victory and defeat,..... In addition to baseball practices and league matches, we get together for BBQs, watch MLB games, and other fun activties.

Our families come from all over the world. In the 2017 - 2018 season, our players consist of 8 nationalities. English is the main language for training instructions and team communication. However, some coaches can speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin, French and German. And it is not uncommon that you hear different languages are spoken among the parents and players.
